The obstacles that the female population deprived of liberty for sexual crimes must face before fully recovering their freedom is one of the consequences of the predominance of a specific gender within prisons that keeps intact the male-centered idea. Under this scenario, it is urgent to identify the degree of commitment of the Chilean State to the international obligations it has acquired through the ratification of various international human rights treaties that address the issue; and also to establish whether it complies with international standards that are key to the functioning of the prison system in relation to groups in special situations of vulnerability (as is the case of women) in their rehabilitation process.
